STAR APPLES RESTAURANT IN KINGSTON JAMAICA

The Star Apples restaurant is owned and operated by Enez Perkins and her husband Michael. Both worked in the New Kingston area and stated that they could not find a Jamaican restaurant that served really good Jamaican food for lunch so they decided to open a Jamaican restaurant that did. Working in Jamaica both the owners could not get Jamaican food they opened a first branch in New Kingston location five years ago in the Island Life Mall and the demand for Jamaican food has grown tremendously. In 2004 the restaurateur closed the New Kingston location and now operates only one Jamaican restaurant on Hope Road in Kingston. Star Apples is named for the Jamaican fruit which ripens to either a shiny green or a rich dark purple hue, is one of the must go eating spots on the busy Hope Road in Kingston Jamaica.

The Star Apples restaurant is so named because the star apple is an exotic Jamaican fruit, which is rare and tasty and this is gives that restaurant its special taste and flavor. Star Apples is housed in an old  home and the new owners kept the homey atmosphere while adding some very unique features geared towards making  dining out experience a memorable one. The setting of the Star Apples restaurant has a paved walkway that winds its way to a veranda that is crowned by lattice work which states welcome. A bar holds centre stage in the middle of the living room and rooms leading from this central area provide cozy nooks for very intimate dining at the restaurant. To the rear of the restaurant, a garden courtyard offers an outdoor dining option under wide brimmed umbrellas, and fish swimming lazily in a sunken pond to provide a pleasant distraction between courses. A white picket fencing borders a sheltered lawn that the restaurant utilizes sometimes for wedding receptions. It must be noted that this is a popular spot for wedding receptions. The green and purple hues of the star apple are echoed in gardens, and add to the colorful restaurant.

Some of the popular Jamaican recipes served at this top class restaurant include appetizers such as the soup of the day, salt fish fritters, jerk sausage, oxtail and beans and escoveitched fish. Another excellent set of recipes served by the restaurant is stew peas; jerk chicken salad recipe, and garlic shrimp pasta.
